K e v i n C l a r k e
KEVIN CLARKE received a BFA in sculpture from Cooper Union
in New York City, where he was born. He then spent four
years in Switzerland and Germany working on conceptual
photographic projects and exhibitions. While in Europe Clarke
completed a book about the Documenta 6 art exhibition in Kassel,
Germany, titled KUNST UND MEDIEN (Art & Media).
He then
photographed the Berlin department store KaDeWe for his book
KAUFHAUSWELT (Department Store World), published in
1980 by Schirmer + Mosel, Munich.
These prize-winning books were followed by THE RED COUCH,
A PORTRAIT OF AMERICA, published in 1984 by Alfred van
der Marck Editions/Harper & Row to wide public acclaim.
He then toured the world photographing night portraits titled
AWE,
before returning to his interest in genetics.
FROM THE BLOOD OF THE POETS is a series of portraits
derived from DNA sequences of artists and scientists in which a
graphic DNA analysis is combined with Clarke's photographic
meditations on identity, archetype and icon.
His recent exhibition at The Museum Wiesbaden, THE INVISIBLE
BODY include twenty six new portraits.
His work has been the subject of numerous gallery and museum
exhibitions and his portraits appear regularly in leading
magazines and art journals internationally.
He lives in New York City and
is currently developing a project in California.
